Nicola Orr

Director

Nicola has spent the last 15 years working with owners and managers in SME organisations helping them to review HR structures and implement appropriate processes to make their organisation run more efficiently. Nicola is a pragmatic and proactive HR generalist, with strong commercial understanding gained across a wide range of industries, in UK and international environments. Her approach is always client-focused; taking time to get to get to know the business and employees, and understanding that ‘one-size does not fit all’ when it comes to HR.

Nicola’s career in HR was launched on the back of her 10 years’ experience working for research agencies – specialising in international, consumer and employee research.

Peter Taylor

Director

Peter is co-founder of HR Circle. He has over 25 years’ experience as an HR leader in the corporate world, most recently in the biotech and life science sectors. His idea in setting up HR Circle in 2007 was to use his extensive experience to bring a blue-chip quality approach to smaller employers, who don’t always have access to large teams or budgets. Peter’s HR superpower is being able to take complex commercial decisions and follow through with an empathy and professionalism that makes them look simple. He is a great networker and enjoys connecting with businesses from all over the world. Peter is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Away from work, Peter enjoys sailing and being by the water.

Mike Payne

Board Advisor

Mike is our external Board Advisor who has been working with HR Circle since 2020. He brings with him a wide range of commercial experience, challenging the team to think more creatively and strategically about the services HR Circle provides today and in the future. Mike has worked in small, as well as some of the largest global, companies giving him a deep understanding of the challenges that businesses face in effectively managing and supporting their staff. Mike lives in Hertfordshire and is a keen fisherman and follower of current affairs. 

Abi Bartholomew

Operations Manager

Abi is our HR Operations Manager and has been with HR Circle since the beginning of 2020. We have grown quite a lot since then and Abi’s role has expanded into all areas of customer success and client onboarding. Having worked in a variety of ITbased roles, she is particularly experienced in areas of administration, marketing, operations and IT. Abi’s organisational and decision-making skills keep the business on track and moving forward. Outside of work, Abi enjoys spending quality time at home with her young family and cooking for friends! 

Anna Keach

Head of Projects and Helpdesk

Anna joined the HR Circle Team in 2022, with a wealth of experience leading corporate HR teams and working as an independent HR Consultant. Her role at HR Circle is focused on project delivery, the more technical and specialist the better (TUPE transfers, job evaluation, employee consultation and organisational restructures are some recent examples). Anna is our go-to person when anyone has an unusual HR request because she really loves researching a thorny problem and understands the importance of finding solutions that meet the needs of each individual organisation. As a Chartered member of the CIPD, Anna has the strategic vision to build and drive HR initiatives, backed up by operational HR experience across multiple countries and sectors. When she’s not at work, Anna enjoys the outdoors, cycling, walking and other activities that involve being in the fresh air! 

Amanda Burgess

Head of Managed Services

Amanda leads the Managed Service team, delivering and overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day outsourced HR for our clients. On a typical day this can involve anything from advising a line manager on a performance management process to drafting bespoke company communications around new benefits. Amanda joined HR Circle in 2021, with 9 years of generalist hands-on HR experience, so there aren’t many situations she can’t handle.  Her strength is collaborating with key stakeholders in our client accounts and providing commercial and empathetic HR advice. In May 2023, Amanda started studying for her Level 7 CIPD Senior People Professional and Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Strategic People Management. In her spare time, Amanda loves to bake, spend time with her two children and enjoys family trips and holidays. 

Megan Wagnall

HR Administrator, Managed Services team

Megan supports our Managed Service clients and has built good relationships with our contacts and their employees since she joined HR Circle as an apprentice back in 2020.  She is often the first person to reply to an email query or to answer the phone if you call the office. She completed her Level 3 CIPD qualification in 2022 and is now studying for her Level 5. Megan is an expert user of our payroll and HR information systems and enjoys helping clients get the information and advice they need.  

Alice Shinn

HR Administrator, Managed Services team

Excited and enthusiastic to develop her career within HR, Alice has taken her first steps by joining HR Circle as our new HR and Payroll Administrator in November 2023. She has started getting to know our clients, learning the fundamentals of employment law, and will be starting her Level 5 CIPD in March 2024 to expand her knowledge. She looks forward to progressing her HR career alongside the team at HR Circle. In her spare time, she likes to read, and spend time with her friends and family. 

Rob Varcoe

Partner

Rob is an Executive Coach, specialising in Leadership and Career coaching. Rob established his own coaching business in 2016 to focus on his passion for developing people, and for the last 4 years has partnered with HR Circle to deliver coaching to many individuals in our client portfolio. Feedback we receive from clients is always firstly that he’s a great listener, and that he always has a well-timed and thought-provoking question. Rob trained with the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) and is a certified practitioner of The Leadership Circle Profile, as well as a licensed Firework Career coach. Prior to coaching, Rob spent over 20 years in Senior HR leadership roles across technology, financial services, and most recently advertising and marketing. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Rob is one our recruitment partners at HR Circle.  Rob has over years of recruitment and executive search experience, predominantly working with businesses in start-up and scale-up mode. He has supported several of our HR Circle clients with ‘hard to fill’ vacancies, having a knack for being able to spot the right candidates and articulate the employer offer. He provides excellent insight on employer branding and has extensive experience in technology and life science sectors.  

Richard Edgerton

Partner

Richard is one our recruitment partners at HR Circle.  He brings a wealth of industry experience with 20+ years’ recruitment knowledge with a strong agency and in-house background. A recruitment technology evangelist, Richard is passionate about people and finding ways to improve the recruitment journey for both clients and candidates alike. Clients appreciate his tenacity and his understanding of client and role requirements.
